53 orangutans rescued during Borneo's fire crisis
Mothers and infants in critical condition, and the rescue centre is now completely full
Baby orangutan Irene was found stressed and very thin in Borneo's fire-hit forests. "She may have gone for days without finding any food in this devastated forest," says wildlife vet Dr Karmele Llano Sanchez, pictured cradling her. 🦧
Irene is one of 53 orangutans rescued by Indonesian charity YIARI since August, some of them mothers and infants in critical condition.
Many are still under veterinary care, and the centre is now full.
Has a rescue story like Irene's ever got you to donate?
